Kovalam - Beach Paradise of the South

Kovalam literally means "Grove of Coconut Trees" . The picturesque town is situated on Malabar Coast along Kerala's shoreline. The sheltered natural bay of Kovalam is fringed by three internationally renowned pristine beaches and rocky headlands. Three beautiful beaches (Samudra, Hawah, and Light House) of Kovalam make a crescent shaped geological formation. The town lies 16 km off Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. Onam Festival is a harvest festival which is celebrated throughout Kerala with much pomp and show to mark the retreat of Monsoon and the advent of a New Year. The grand fiesta is characterized with its passionate water carnivals (world famous Snake Boat Race), beautiful fireworks, colorful dance performances, grand feasts, traditional games and massive street processions.
