  • Respect local customs while mingling with locals or travelling in bazaars
  • Wear snake proof boots while trekking through thick forests
  • Book your hotel accommodation in advance as you may find it difficult to get a hotel room at the last hour, especially during peak festive season
  • Ensure that there is life jacket for everyone on board the houseboat. Do not board a houseboat if there are insufficient life jackets
  • Keep your identification documents like passport, visa, residence proof etc. with you during your travels and keep them in a safe and secure place
  • Ensure that your tour guides and drivers know English and the local language of your travel destinations
  • Before signing any tour package or deal, be upfront to ask about any hidden or ancillary charges. Ask specifically whether the tour package includes ticket charges for sightseeing of historical monuments etc.
  • Always hire a pre-paid taxi from airport or railway station and do not let any stranger share it with you during your journeys
  • Always inform two persons while going on a long adventure trip. Share your full itinerary with them and also inform about your expected time of return so that search and rescue operation could be started in good time in case something unexpected or unfortunate happens to you
  • Always drink packaged mineral water from a sealed bottle. Do not use water of public taps for drinking purposes as it may be contaminated and unfit for consumption
  • Ensure that you have reliable and handy communication equipments at your disposal while traveling to remote areas so that you can summon help in any unforeseen eventuality
  • Do not share your unnecessary financial details or personal information with your helps or strangers
  • Do not read your mails etc. in laptop while using public transport like train or buses as total strangers may read your private data.
  • Wear leech proof socks while cruising in backwaters or trekking through forests
  • Respect religious customs and etiquettes while visiting a temple, church, mosque etc.
  • Do not accept any kind of food, fruits, drinks etc. from strangers. It may be laced with sedatives.
  • Always ask for a bill receipt whenever you purchase any souvenir, curios or handicraft item.
  • While having elephant safari, be courteous to the animal and avoid provocative gestures. Follow the instructions of the mahout.
  • Hold the howdah of the elephant firmly during your elephant safari and adjust your body movement according to the animal.
  • Wear proper head gear and have a secure and strong harness while doing mountaineering or rock climbing
  • Avoid make lengthy conversations on your long distance calls from your hotel room as these are generally costly
  • Do not take pictures and videos of the locations where notices have specifically been put forbidding the same
  • Do not make provocative gestures before predators and wild animals during your jeep safaris. Lie low on the jeep and do not speak loudly or stare directly into the eyes of the predators for long
  • Follow the instructions of your guide during jungle safari. Ensure that you have an experienced armed guide while you to go to tiger trails or sightseeing of other dangerous wild animals like bears, leopards, lions or elephants.
  • Wear wide brimmed hats to avoid sun stroke during summers
  • Take mosquito repellent cream and first aid box with you when you travel to remote areas
  • Travel to certain areas like Lakshadweep islands require special permission of the authorities. Do not travel to these territories without proper approval and permission
  • A tip of 5 percent of the total cost is expected in restaurants and hotels
